#What it backs up

Configuration backup and restore is included on every plan. Compare plans

Settings → Backups backs up FileAgent's configuration: your jobs, credentials, users, and settings. It does not back up the files your jobs move — that's the job of your storage systems and your own backup tooling.

Backups are encrypted with your recovery passphrase. Destinations can be a local folder, an SMB share, or an SFTP server; an SFTP destination uses the SFTP connector, available on Pro, Business, and Enterprise. If a plan change removes SFTP, the saved destination is kept and backups pause until you choose a Local or SMB destination; existing backups can still be restored.

#Creating and scheduling backups

  1. Open Settings → Backups.
  2. Run a backup on demand, or schedule regular backups.
  3. Store backups where only administrators can read them — they contain sensitive configuration.
Always take a backup before updates or major configuration changes, so a failed change is just a restore away.

#Restoring

You can restore a backup onto a repaired or replacement host from the first-run setup screen (see First login & setup) — this is how you rebuild FileAgent on new hardware and bring back your jobs, credentials, users, and settings.

A restore never changes the installation's license: the plan activated on the host stays in effect. If the restored configuration has more enabled jobs, users, or credentials than that plan allows, FileAgent keeps everything, warns you, and runs only what fits until you disable items or upgrade.

#Keep backups safe

Configuration backups contain sensitive material, including stored credentials. Store them on protected storage with restricted access, and apply the same controls you'd apply to the FileAgent host itself.

For host-level backup and recovery guidance, see Backup & recovery.
