Licensing and plans

Activate your license key, understand validation and plan limits, fix expired or invalid licenses, and upgrade between plans.

#Where licensing is managed

Everything license-related lives under Settings → Licensing: activate a key, view your current plan and limits, refresh validation, or import an offline license file. Your license key is emailed to you when you purchase a plan. The Free plan needs no key.

A license applies to one production FileAgent installation — the server it is activated on. The folders, servers, buckets, and other endpoints that installation connects to are not licensed separately.

#Activating a license

  1. Open the license email you received after checkout and copy the key.
  2. Go to Settings → Licensing → Activate license.
  3. Paste the key and choose Activate. FileAgent validates it and unlocks your plan's connectors, limits, and features immediately.
Licenses for the plans currently sold require FileAgent 2.6.0 or later. Update FileAgent before activating if your installation is older; activation on an older release is refused rather than applying the wrong limits.

Need the email re-sent? Use the activation page or contact support@fileagent.app.

#License validation

FileAgent revalidates the license with the licensing service over HTTPS once a day and when an administrator selects Refresh, so renewals, plan changes, and cancellations are picked up without re-entering the key. Transfers never wait on this check: jobs run from the signed license stored on the installation.

If the licensing service can't be reached, the stored license stays in effect for its current term, so a brief outage or firewall change won't interrupt scheduled jobs. The Licensing page shows current status and the last validation time.

#Plan limits

Your plan sets the number of named users, active jobs, and stored credentials; which connectors are available; how long run history is kept; and which features are unlocked. When you reach a limit, FileAgent tells you at the point of action — for example, when you try to enable one more job than your plan allows.

Active job
An enabled job definition that can run on its schedule or manually, including Scheduled Purge jobs. Repeated runs of the same job do not use additional slots. Disabled jobs do not count, but a disabled job must fit within your active job limit before it can run.
Stored credential
A saved set of connection secrets, such as for SMB, FTP, SFTP, AWS S3, or Azure Blob, used by jobs, archives, and backups.
Production installation
The FileAgent server your license key is activated on. The source folders, destination servers, buckets, and other endpoints that installation connects to are not licensed separately.
Unlimited
FileAgent enforces no numeric cap on this resource. Practical capacity still depends on your server, storage, and connected systems.
Custom
Set in your Enterprise agreement and applied to your license.

#Expired or invalid licenses

If a license expires or fails validation, FileAgent applies Free-plan limits while keeping everything you configured: jobs, users, credentials, archives, and run history are preserved, and jobs beyond the Free limits simply don't run until the license is resolved. Run history beyond the shorter retention period is kept until an administrator confirms the change in System Configuration. Fix the subscription or activate a new key and functionality returns. Common causes: lapsed payment, a key pasted with extra whitespace, or blocked outbound HTTPS — see license troubleshooting.

#Upgrades and offline environments

Upgrades are immediate: purchase the higher plan, activate the new key, and the new limits apply — no reinstall, no job changes. For contracted capacity, agreed retention, or custom terms, contact sales about Enterprise; Enterprise agreements are quoted and invoiced.

Existing subscriptions keep their terms. If you bought a plan that is no longer listed on the pricing page, your license keeps the limits and features it was purchased with and continues to renew on its current terms. The Licensing page labels it as a legacy plan.

For hosts that can't reach the internet, FileAgent supports importing a signed offline license file under Settings → Licensing. If your environment is permanently air-gapped, mention it to sales so the right license type is issued.
